Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights
Diwali is one of the most popular Hindu festivals and signifies the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and renewal of life.
The importance of recognising and celebrating cultural diversity is a strong message in our curriculum. The value of diversity is visible when we teach our tamariki to respect for others and their views, beliefs and cultures; dialogue; tolerance; inclusion; cultural safety; wairua (attitude) and spirituality.
Therefore, we embraced Indian culture and the spirit of Diwali in our October play group and let our tamariki to experience Indian music and live Indian dancing performance, Henna designs on hands, Rangoli and fire work art and craft, making Diya(Indian lamps), vibrant colours worn and adorned, enjoying the tastes of India and of course, all amongst the symbolic sight of radiating light and positivity from Little Rose.
A big thank you for the families who joined us for this celebration and hope you all had a great time together with your tamariki!
